Creating what we need by our hands

Abstract

About 40 students created something they needed in their daily lives using disposed materials found at home. We analyzed the process of their creation and found that some boundaries became blured and their scopes about what is usable, what they are capable of, and what they can contribute to the society expanded. As a result, they could recognize the connection between their daily behavior and the society. We suggest that this process underlies some design principles proposed recently within the Information Design Research Group.
