Focus on Impression Evaluation Methods and Analysis of the Visual Attributes

Abstract

Typeface consist of meaning and form, different typefaces give different visual impressions of the same textual information. It is proved that the form of typeface have significant impacts on human emotions in many previous studies. Nowadays, the needs of multilingual typegraphy are growing for multilingual sign, website, etc. There is a need to elucidate the impressions received from the form of typefaces in diverse languages. This report take a review of previous research of evaluating the impressions of Japanese typefaces. The intention is to lead to an examination of the possibilities for dealing with multilingual situations in the future.
