Keyboard design considering children's physical characteristics

Report of usability experiment for key pitch study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to construct a design method to automatically generate a physically compatible product that is easy to use for a child with the physical characteristics of a third grader. The usability of the keyboards was evaluated in terms of workability and comfort by four different key spacings. The results were varied with measuring method there were no clear differences except for the subjective evaluation. Subjective ratings and finger and wrist extension movements suggested that 16.5 mm spacing was good usability.
