Abstract

This study examines the evaluation of difficulty using objective measures between puzzles with different rules. The purpose of the study is to clarify the relationship between the type of rule, the difficulty level and the time to complete a puzzle. One-way ANOVAs of the difficulty ratings and time-to-completion times obtained from subject experiments indicated that the type of rule had a dominant effect on the clearance time and difficulty rating. In addition, the correlation between the time to completion and the difficulty rating was analyzed, and a positive correlation was found in most cases.
