Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine communication between the elderly and multiple generations in Japan's aging society and the role of play as a support tool. Through a survey of articles published by the Japan Society for Intergenerational Studies and an on-site survey at a dementia day service and play park in Hachioji City, we have confirmed that old-fashioned play has special value in promoting intergenerational communication, including with the elderly with dementia. In the future, we will work on classifying old games according to the conditions of the elderly and redesign them as a multigenerational communication tool through play verification.
