Abstract

To improve hazard perception in bicycle riding, a riding experience combining a bicycle simulator and a Head Mounted Display was conducted. Nine accident scenarios were prepared, and two riding tests were conducted. The results of the experiment showed that the overall accident rate decreased the second time, especially the rates of accidents with vehicles that jumped out of the road and vehicles that disregarded traffic signals. These results confirmed that the experience of driving through accident scenarios improves hazard perception.
