A Chair Design Proposal to Reduce the Sense of Being Watched in Open Spaces

Abstract

In recent years, open spaces have gained popularity for their sense of openness and the productivity boost from social facilitation. However, eye contact can reduce concentration. This study proposes a chair design that minimizes the feeling of being watched while maintaining openness. Through experiments, a rotating armrest was tested, but its effect on gaze direction was limited. The final design includes a circular seat and adjustable armrests. Future research will verify its effectiveness and explore further improvements.
