Abstract
In this article, we examined the genealogy of the situation concept and tasks for its conceptualization and theorization in social work theory. Literature, theme words such as "person-in-situation", were selected from social work journals and books in the United States and were studied. As a result, we found that the situation concept was classified into six terms, which were : (1) social orientation period, (2) psychosocial orientation period, (3) the first intermediate period, (4) situational orientation period, (5) the second intermediate period, and (6) the reconsideration period. Also in this genealogy, in spite of having accepted the importance of the situation concept, it was noted that the definition was ambiguous and the conceptual model was outdated. From these points of view, we concluded that our next tasks are to define our concept clearly and to include empirical research. Through this research, we reconfirmed that, accepting the validity of the criticism, the situation concept is still important in considering the focus of social work.
