Abstract

This study compares the role of school social workers (SSWs) with that based on the expectations from teachers in order to develop a model for promoting SSWs with individualized educational-support plans. Based on the findings, although dealing with problematic behaviors (e.g., bullying and violent actions), providing recommendations to the school, and making requests to the local government to improve system development are the duties of SSWs (as stipulated by law), these aspects were not mentioned by teachers as their expectations of SSWs. Thus, individualized educational-support plans should specify the recipients of such support from SSWs as well as clarify that their work includes making recommendations to the school and requesting that the local municipality improve its educational system.
