Abstract

Using 150 Bangladesh floating rice varieties, character association among isozymic genotype, grain type and phenol reaction of grains were observed. Thirty-nine varieties had the isozymic genotype Acp1-4 Px24c and all showed positive phenol reaction, among which 36 were slender grain type. Seventy-eight varieties had the genotype Acp1-4 Px20 and all showed positive phenol reaction, among which 74 were slender grain type. Three varieties with the genotype Acp19 Px24c showed positive phenol reaction, and 2 varieties of them were slender and one was long grain type. In 30 varieties with the genotype Acp19 Px20, 12 varieties were round grain type and four of them showed negative phenol reaction of grains. Average number of leaves and elongated internodes under short day condition was larger in the genotype Acp19 Px20 than in other genotypes. Accordingly, a new varietal group close to Japonica is probably differentiated in Bangladesh floating varieties.
