Report on the 13th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Tobacco Control “ICT-based smoking cessation treatment”

Abstract

　The symposium “Smoking cessation treatment using ICT” was held at the “13th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Tobacco Control (JST 2019 Yamagata Meeting)” held on November 3 (Sun) to 4 (Mon), 2019. Although smoking cessation treatment has gradually become more widespread in Japan, there is still room for an increase in the number of outpatient visits for smoking cessation. With the rapid progress of ICT, the use of this technology in smoking cessation treatment will make it possible to provide online treatment instead of outpatient treatment, and a new method of supporting smoking cessation using an app. Those technologies should lead to further penetration of smoking cessation treatment in the future with both convenience and quality of treatment. In this paper, we describe the overviews of the lectures given by the speakers in order to share the current status of the use of ICT and medical care utilizing the technology, issues to be solved in the introduction of ICT, and medical systems.
