Abstract

The widespread use of automated vehicles is expected to have positive effects on safety and traffic facilitation. The widespread use of automated vehicles will have an impact on the location and total number of parking spaces. The location of parking lots will be freed up due to changes in usage, and the demand for parking lots will decrease due to the spread of vehicle sharing. The purpose of this study is to quantify the impact of the spread of automated vehicle sharing services on the location and total number of parking spaces. This is a simulation of the matching of ridesharing and the addition of access/egress trips to parking lots for each sharing service diffusion scenario and examined the degree of parking lot consolidation appropriate for each scenario from environmental, economic, and social perspectives. As a result, it was found that the more widespread the sharing service becomes, the more desirable it is to consolidate parking spaces on a large scale.
