Abstract

This study aimed to show similarities between traffic volume fluctuations of a small street and the main road nearby to develop a method to estimate the traffic volume of a narrow street from that of the main road, where traffic volume was observed. As a result of the analysis, it was found out as follows: First, there was a high correlation between the traffic volume fluctuations of a small street and the main road nearby. Secondly, the correlation between a small street and the main road nearby was higher than that between small streets or main roads. Thirdly, the correlation between a narrow street and the main road nearby was higher than that between a narrow street and the main road more than 5km apart. In addition, the correlation between the two parallelly positioned was higher than that between the two intersectionally positioned in most cases. These findings show the possibility of estimating the traffic volume of a narrow street from that of the main road nearby.
