Abstract
We report a 74-year-old man with polyarteritis nodosa (PN) who developed simultaneous bilateral putaminal hemorrhage. He was under treatment for a fever, elevated CRP and interstitial pneumonia when he developed intracranial cerebral hemorrhage with dysarthria, followed by the CT scans revealing acute bilateral putaminal hemorrhage. Although an oral steroid was administered to control suspected vasculitis, but the hemorrhage was exacerbated, and he subsequently died of complication of interstitial pneumonia. He was histopathologically diagnosed as PN, which is manifested by the vasculitis of only middle-sized vessels in spite of his hemorrhage lesion perfused by perforating branches. We review some literatures about stroke with vasculitis.
