Abstract
Background and Purpose: To evaluate the Shizuoka Stroke Network (SSN), we investigated the recurrence rate of stroke from three general hospitals. Methods: Analyses were performed on the Diagnosis Procedure Combination data of 5,254 acute stroke patients. The patients were classified by the presence of registration of SSN. The rate of readmission with acute stroke was investigated during 5.5 years. Results: On multivariate Cox hazard regression analyses, registration of SSN (HR 0.65, CI: 0.45–0.93, p=0.020) was an independent negative predictor of stroke recurrence, and ischemic stroke (HR 1.61, CI: 1.11–2.33, p=0.012) and discharge to home (HR 1.41, CI: 1.02–1.94, p=0.037) were independent predictors of stroke recurrence. Conclusion: This retrospective multicenter study suggests that SSN reduces the recurrence rate of stroke patients.
