Abstract
Japanese Stroke Bank is the first standard stroke registration system in Japan. These concept is 1) standard diagnostic criteria (NINDS III), 2) standard evaluation of severity of stroke patient (JSS, NIHSS), 3) standardization of outcome evaluation (m-Rankin), and 4) available for own stroke database in each hospital. 5) possible to make statistical evaluation of Japanese stroke data. 6) possible to compare with other institutes or countries.
According to stroke databank, proportion of atherothrombotic infarction was high as same as lacunar infarction, and cardioembolic infarction also increased linearly with aging. The patients of cardioembolic infarction occupied more than half of poor outcome group in the ischemic stroke. Thrombolytic therapy for ultraacute patients showed significantly better outcome than in those with conventional therapy. The patients with hypertensive hemorrhage who received antithrombotic agent before onset showed poor outcome, but those with cerebral thrombosis showed less symptomatic progression rate than those without it. This stroke databank may be available for evaluation of stroke guideline.
