Abstract
Ventricular septal defects were observed in a female ostrich that died suddenly at the age of 18 months and in an euthanized male adult Chinese goose. Both defects were located in the muscular septum. The defect of the ostrich was large and had a lip-like protrusion consisting of thick endocardium. The ostrich heart was accompanied by the defect of the left anterior vena cava.
