Abstract
In Japan, with industrial structural change and economic globalization, people with intellectual disability tend to acquire the jobs in the service industries, especially in the field of medical care and social services. There became increasing the number of the training courses for people with intellectual disability to get the qualification of home helper. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibilities of the home helper training courses as means of effective vocational education and job placement. As for the study method, a case study of the Home Helper Third Rank Training Course For People With Intellectual Disability held in Y city in 2004 was adopted and examined the meanings of the courses through the practical experience of these courses. The 12 participants were interviewed and their psychological process was analyzed and four factors such as hope, will, competence and self-esteem were extracted.The relevant strategy to establish effective vocational education and job placement is to support their empowering process should be considered.
