Abstract
The concentrations of 16 perfluoro organic compounds (PFCs) in leachate samples from 21 landfills were determined using LC/MS/MS. The concentrations of PFCs in raw water and activated carbon adsorbed raw water were determined to evaluate the efficiency of wastewater treatment facilities. The concentrations of PFCs in leachate ranged from 26.3 to 2,650 ng·L-1. The concentration of perfluoro carboxylic acids (PFCAs) was higher than the concentration of perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (PFASs) in all the leachate samples. The mean removal rates for PFOS and PFOA were 87.0% and 77.5%, respectively, in facilities where activated carbon was regularly changed. However, the removal rate has begun to decrease from short-carbon-chain PFCA sequentially, when the adsorption ability of activated carbon was reduced.
