Abstract
The grade of water pollution is usually evaluated by BUD, COD, TOC, TOD, Ignition loss, etc. Each term indicates only the concentration of matter directly or indirectly.
On the other hand, the degree of aerobic or anaerobic would be also required to evaluate the water pollution.
This paper aims to evaluate the characteristics on the stream waters and the bottom sediments in the municipal rivers near by Kanto Gakuin University and attempts to discuss on the following items.
(1) The significance of Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) measurement in the environment.
(2) The ORP of the waters and the sediments in some rivers and a bay.
(3) The oxidation-reduction intensity level of the waters and the sediments in the municipal river can be learned by measurement of ORP.
(4) The ORP value provide some good hints which help us evaluate a saprobie-stufe of water pollution.
