Abstract
Monitoring networks which will detect leachate leaks from landfill disposal sites need to be designed with an aim to better manage environmental risks traceable to these leaks. With regard to a system for detecting leaks in the case of a seepage control sheet break by monitoring electrical potential distortion, the authors needed to clarify the rate of leakage flow and important monitoring networks for the management of environmental risks caused by leakage. A model experiment and numerical simulation was made to quantitatively analyze the accuracy for measuring the size and location of the breaks. Based on the results, design requirements for leakage detection monitoring networks were made clear for the management of environmental risks.
