Abstract
Viscosity measurements of sulphate paper pulp were tried with two cuprammonium solutions, lower copper content and higher copper content solution, in comparison with cupriethylenediamine solutions. On cuprammonium method; (1) high DP parts and hemicellulose of pulp were not dissolved in lower copper solution, (2) in higher copper solution pulp left some undissolved residues even if two-step dissolving process was used.
On cupriethylenediamine method, when two-step dissolving process was used, pulp was dissolved satisfactorily within 30 minutes, and reproducibility of relative viscosity was good.
It is suggested that cupriethylenediamine solutions in two-step dissolving method are better suited than cuprammonium solution when used on rapid viscosity measurements of paper pulp.
