Abstract
The necessity of glycerin as the sulphite antioxidant used in Tappi Standards T 624 m-44 and the effect of sodium stannate were studied. The results are summarized as follows :
1. Sulphite can be determined without glycerin when sulphite content of the original liquor is about 4g/l or less.
2. In the case of the sample containing more sulphite, the omission of glycerin is possible when 25 ml of the liquor is taken up instead of 100 ml used in Tappi.
By this way, the determination is carried out if its content is not more than 6 g/l.
3. When a large amount of sulphite is present in the liquors, sodium stannate is available as antioxidant. It is effective at the concentration of 0.001 M.
