Abstract
(1) According to a test in regular method, pH was measured for the exuded liquid which was dissolved out by boiled water from hand made-paper in Japan and a various foreign paper made by machine.
(2) By the results of the above, I confirmed that the liquid of the latter shows acid reaction, and the former shows alkaline reaction.
(3) It is clear that an excess of the alkaline contents of the liquid is the cause of alkalinity of a hand-made paper of Japan.
If we use soda ash instead of sodium carbonate, we might expect miner pH of them.
