This paper describes an overview of the laboratory automation which is broken down into the two categories:(1) the automatic data acquisition system and laboratory information management system, and (2) the laboratory robotics. After the review, commercial automation systems for paper testing laboratory using these fundamental systems are shown from a user's point of view. System performance characteristics and some guidelines for automating the laboratory functions are also discussed.
