Abstract
Completely new fields of wood utilization have been opened by the facts that both chemically -modified and non-modified wood can be dissolved in several organic solvents. By applying these phenomena, the wood based filaments have been formed by the spinning of wood-phenol solution with hexamethylenetetramine. The carbonization of the filament has been carried out successfully at 900°C. The tensile strength of the carbon fiber was found to be 100 kg/mm2.
