Abstract
Recent progress of R & D on pulping and papermaking of nonwood plant fibers was overviewed for recognition of the growing worldwide importance of the utilization of these resources in pulp and paper industries. Among these fibers, straws, sugarcane bagasse and kenaf are regarded as important and have been intensively investigated for industrialization especially in indeveloping countries. Pulping of bast fibers, bamboos, linter, reeds and oil palm by-products are also mentioned.
