The control of morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate in the carbonation precess of lime in an aqueous solution or in a suspension is described. Effects of concentration of dissolved calcium hydroxide in solution and additives such as saccharose and glutamic acid monosodium salt on the crystallization of amorphous calcium carbonate are examined and conditions for synthesis of such crystals, platy basic calcium carbonate, spherical vaterite, cubic or spindle-like calcite and calcium carbonate hexahydrate are discussed.
