Sizing mechanism of ASA and rosin systems, and roles of alum and carboxyl groups of pulp in sizing, etc.

Abstract

Paper sizing is reviewd in terms of sizing and rerention mechansims of alkenylsuccinic anhydrides, rosin-alum systems and saponified alkenylsuccinic acids on the basis of recent publications and our experimental results. Furthermore, roles of alum and carboxyl groups of pulp in wet-end were studied from the aspects of internal sizing and retention of wet-end additives in sheet.
