Abstract

1. The total amount of industrial wastes generated in Japanese paper mills corresponds to about 6% of their paper production (bone dried base).
2. The utilization rate is 49.7% against 26.1% in the former survey in 1989 and supposed to increase furthermore because of the incremental commitment to recycling and the high cost of disposal and landfilling.
3. Almost 70% of wooden residues and combustible organic wastes from various manufacturing and effluent treatment processes are incinerated for energy recovery.
