Effect of Water Retention of Coating Color on Surface Property of Gate-roll-coated Paper

Abstract

Coating colors of different dewatering rate were prepared. These colors were coated on a wood-containing paper by a pilot gate roll coater. Surface properties such as fiber coverage, uniformity of coating, smoothness and sheet gloss of gate-roll-coated paper were evaluated. Relation between water retention of coating color and surface property of gateroll-coated paper was discussed.
