Abstract
The N-1 M/C in Tomakomai mill, Oji Paper, has fulfilled its role as a main newsprint machine in the mill since 1964. Because of its superannuation, in May 1996, the N-1 M/C was rebuilt for aiming at quality improvements of products and increase of machine speed. The shoe-press, Closed Extended Nip Press (ENP-C), was introduced into a newsprint machine for the first time in Japan, and about one year have past with its successful running since the start-up. This paper describe the modifying and operating experience on the shoe-press of the N-1 machine.
