Abstract
Today, KP cooking process is the main pulp production process in the world. In 1998, KP was produced 99.7% of all of Japanese chemical pulp production. KP process was invented in 1879 before only 120 years ago. On the other hand, SP cooking method was more early developed than KP cooking. SP cooking has been on the decrease and KP cooking has been increasing on the chemical pulp production process by the difficulty of cooking chemicals reproduction. But SP has good properties such as bleachbility, beatability than KP, we must study about new cooking chemicals or new additives to cooking with the reference of SP and KP cooking reaction mechanism. In this paper, I describe about the history of cooking chemicals and the tendency of new pulping chemicals and additives for the development of environmental friendly pulping technologies.
