Abstract
In the pulping process, natural materials such as rosin and lignin dissolve in the process water from the wood, and in the papermaking process, various addition chemicals such assize, strength resin and starch is used. Its material is very easy to foam. Therefore the effect of foam, especially of entrained air in stock suspensions, has received considerable attention in the pulp and paper industry.
Air in stock has undesirable effects on both the operating efficiency and the quality of the product. Papermakers try to minimize foam generation by proper operation and mechanical means. However, complete avoidance of air entrainment is almost impossible, antifoams have become indispensable processing aids for pulping and papermaking.
