Abstract
There have been many studies on the hand. Not many of their results, however, can be applied to the industrial uses. In this paper, a system for measuring the hand is presented.
1. A difinition of the hand is given and its criterion is arranged as shown in Fig. 1.
2. The new concept “the basic mechanical properties” is presented, which should be the representatives of the mechanical properties of fabrics. Their measuring methods are summarized in Table 2.
3. An equation relating the basic mechanical properties to hand is derived on the basis of Weber-Fechner's law; Yi=2.30/αilog10Xi/Xsi where Yi is the sensibility of the hand corresponding to the basic mechanical property Ai, Xi is the measured value of Ai, αi is the sensory differential limen and Xsi is the standard value of Ai.
4. The differential limens and the standard values of the basic mechanical properties are presented in numerals in Table 6.
5. The numerical and graphical method for expressing the results of measurements are discussed. An example of the applications of this method to the practical use is given.
