Abstract
The handle of textiles is mainly judged by physical stimuli to human hand. So, the subjective assessment of handle is considered as the transmission of information from stimuli to human response. In this paper, the technique of information theory was applied to discuss the measurement of handle. (1) How to classify the characteristic of handle by using symbolic logic method is discussed. (2) How to measure subjective judgement of handle with the transmission of information is discussed. In this case, the information value is expressed as “entropy” which means the degree of uncertainty in information theory. (3) Subjective judgement of handle is calculated as information value for sensory tests on the feeling of textile materials; silk-, wool-, and linen-like touch.
