Abstract

An oval mass suspending from the vulva was seen in a nine-year old female Shih Tzu. The mass appeared a typical pedunculated polyp macroscopically and was protruded from the mucous membrane on the vaginal wall. The polyp was removed surgically under inhalation anesthesia. Up on histopathological examination, the polyp was covered by the squamous epithelial cells similar to those of the normal vaginal mucosa. The interstitial tissue was severely edematous and hyperplasia of connective tissue and fibroblasts was observed. No cellular atypia was recognized. The present case was diagnosed as a non-tumor and fibrous polyp formed on the vaginal mucosa.
