Abstract

A 3-year-old male Japanese domestic cat with nephroblastoma was initially treated with orthovoltage irradiation at 8 Gy once weekly for 4 weeks. Irradiation achieved partial remission, after which the tumor was surgically removed. Postoperative chemotherapy with mitoxantrone was administered at a dose of 6 mg/m2 five times every 3 weeks, for 12 weeks. The cat showed complete remission and survived for over 3 years after the first admission without recurrence or metastasis. Nephroblastoma is a rare tumor in cats. This case suggests that even the large nephroblastoma can be treated with this combination.
