Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus, isolated from bovine mastitis in South Veterinary Clinical Center in Chiba between October 1990 and April 1993, were examined for their coagulase type (CT) and enterotoxin type (ET), and productivities of toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) . ET and TSST-1 were not significantly associated with degrees of clinical conditions of mastitis. Bacterial type in significant crinical cases had 30.9% in CT-6, 47.8% in ET-C strain and 34.3% in TSST-1 against the whole isolated bacteria. One or few strains which had same types in CT, ET and/or TSST-1 were mainly detected in each farm.
Therefore, the present study indicated that ET and TSST-1 induced the inflammations and some bacterial or host factors might be also playing some important roles in determining of the clinical conditions of mastitis.
