Transient Fuel Behavior under an In-reactor Rapid Heating Condition

Abstract
The transient fuel behavior during a rapid heating was successfully recorded in color by a new optical system in the in-reactor experiment. Clearly were observed state of red hot fuel rod, coolant boiling, cracking of the cladding, quenching and so on in the motion pictures taken by the system. The details of transient boiling and various fuel failure modes under a rapid heating of a fuel rod became clear.
