Abstract
Understanding of the electronic structure at organic/metal (O/M) interface is essential to elucidate charge injection process from the electrode to the active organic layers in the organic devices. The charge injection properties are believed to have significant influences on the device performance. The aim of this paper is to overview the specific problems of the electronic structure at the O/M interface. The problems are discussed by dividing the O/M interface into “contact interface region” and “transition region”. The former is defined as the very thin film region where the metal directly affects the electronic structure of organic film and the latter is defined as the region of transition from the contact interface region to bulk region.
