Abstract
Reaction rates of pure titanium and zirconium with O2, air, N2 and CO2 at high temperature were measured by a vacuum microbalance, and the products were also examined with x-ray analysis. These reactions follow mainly parabolic rate law, and the energies of activation of these reactions are, respectively, as follows
Zr-O2 34200, Zr-air 42200, Zr-N2 35000, Zr-CO2 65000, Ti-O2 39600 Ti-N2 35000, Ti-CO2 69000, (cal/mol)
