Abstract
We have reported an experimental study of the apparent local barrier height (LBH) as measured by STM corresponding to the work function on nanometer scale. Dependence of the LBH on the STM measurement conditions of tunnel current, bias voltage and tip-sample separation was precisely measured under fixing each measurement condition. We found that LBH on the reconstructed Au (111) surface with an Au tip depends exclusively on the tip-sample separation in our experimental conditions of I= 5 nA and V=-30 mV.
