Abstract
In the previous paper, the theoretical consideration and the designing of the Gulbransen type microbalance has been described. In this paper, the method of construction of the balance will be given in detail. Firstly, an offset in the central portion of the fused silica beam and the mounting of a small mirror and other parts should be made exactly according to the design considerations. This is the most important procedure to get a microbalance of any desired sensitivity. Coplanar positioning of the center and the end supporting wires is important to secure a nearly constant sensitivity of the balance with varying loads. These three tnngsten wires are sealed to the beam with Aga Then, a simple supporting frame is made to fit into the vacuum vessel, and the center supporting wire is sealed to the frame with a definite sag. All these procedures can only be performed with the use of suitable jigs. The jigs are illustrated and the details of microbalances constructed are given in the table. The characteristics of these balances in operation will be described in a succeeding paper.
