Abstract
The conventional creosote oil has been excluded from the market of household products by the Japanese regulation due to three types of carcinogenic components in the oil. Anti-fungal effectiveness of the conventional creosote oil decreased by reducing the content of three carcinogenic chemicals to1ppm or less. However, the creosote oil without the harmful components could completely surpassed the decay attack by adding coumarone-indene resin at 5% concentration. Effectiveness of the newly modified creosote oil was evaluated in accordance to JIS K 1571: 2004, and the new creosote oil could satisfy the requirement of the standard in decay and termite resistances, and iron corrosion for impregnation and surface coating.
