Abstract
The performance of the new insecticide “ broflanilide (brand name: Tenebenal®)” as termiticide was investigated. In soil contact test, Tenebenal® was effective against Formosan subterranean termite at 0.1 ppm and equal to or higher termiticidal activity than existing agents. Tenebenal® showed slower action than synthetic pyrethroid and neonicotinoid termiticides. In soil penetration test, no termite repellency was observed in Tenebenal®-treated soil at 100 ppm. Tenebenal®-treated woods were found to be effective against the termite when envelope treated on solid wood at 0.0025% solution and pressure treated into solid wood at 0.0005% solution. In chemical analysis test of preservative treated wood, residual rate of Tenebenal® was 85.5% after storing at room temperature for 2 years. It was higher stability than existing termiticides. These results revealed that Tenebenal® is a promising termiticide which has excellent toxicity to termite and high stability in wood.
