Abstract
Structural safety performance of wooden houses in seismic diagnosis is usually evaluated on adequate configuration and strength of structural elements such as bearing walls. The configuration can be checked with drawings and specifications, though the strength depending upon the degradation of frameworks can not be tested with a visual inspection. In this report, three measuring equipments, Pilodyn, Schmit Hammer, and FAKOPP were applied to evaluate the degradation of columns of wooden house which had been used for 103 years. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of measured values by the equipments as a degradation criterion, the values were compared to the bending strength determined with full size testing using the columns. In addition, decreases of horizontal rigidity determined by STAN 3 D computer simulation for the degraded framework were compared to the measured values as the degradation criteria. These experiments indicated that Pilodyn is an effective equipment for testing the degradation of house and the threshold value of degradation is over 20 mm for Japanese cedar columns.
