Measurement of the Misalignment at Butt Welding in Pipe using Digital Image Correlation

Abstract

A stereo vision technique based on digital image correlation is applied to the inspection of the weld misalignment of a steel pipe. Handy digital cameras are used for developing a stereo vision system to realize the measurement easily and simply. Field tests are performed to validate the applicability and the effectiveness of the developed system. The results show that the misalignment of the steel pipe can be easily recognized from the three-dimensional shape obtained by the stereo vision system.
