Abstract
Improvement mechanism of solidification cracking by purification was investigated using type 310 stainless steels with varying the amount of impurity elements such as C, P and S. The solidification cracking susceptibility was diminished by reducing the amount of impurity elements in stainless steel because the brittle temperature range in solidification (BTR) shrank due to the suppression of solidification segeregation. On the other hand, SUS310UHP was highly susceptibile to ductility-dip cracking due to the deterioation of hot ductility.
