Reduction of Angular Distortion by Transformation Expansion of Weld Metal in Joints with External Restraints

Abstract

Fillet welded T-joints were fabricated with the low-transformation-temperature welding wire under conditions that the generation of the angular distortion was prevented by clamps or rib-plates. Results of numerical simulation showed that the transformation expansion of the weld metal was effective for reducing the angular distortion even under the condition where external restraints exist.
